About SRM Mechanical

SRM Mechanical is a Norfolk plumbing, heating and gas engineering business built on more than 20 years of hands-on experience. Owner Shaun Maxey spent most of his working life employed in the trade before deciding to be his own boss, to challenge himself and to build a stable future for his family, and that pride shows in every job.

We provide a full range of professional services, from emergency repairs and routine maintenance to full system installations for both residential and commercial properties. Our long-standing experience means we do not just fix problems, we understand the systems behind them.

We take pride in delivering honest advice, transparent pricing and solutions that stand the test of time. No job is too big or too small, and every customer receives the same level of attention and care, whether it is a dripping tap or a complete commercial plant room.

Shaun is a local Norfolk lad, born and bred, and has not ventured far from his home county. Your comfort, safety and satisfaction are the top priorities on every job, and that is exactly the standard SRM Mechanical was built to deliver.

Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What areas do you cover?

We cover Norwich, Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, King's Lynn and the wider Norfolk area. If you are not sure whether you are within our patch, just call 07745 036715 and we will let you know. We are available seven days a week.

Who will actually do the work?

Shaun will. SRM Mechanical is owner-led, so when you book us it is Shaun Maxey who turns up and carries out the work, not a subcontractor. You get the same experienced engineer from the first phone call to the final handover.

How much experience do you have?

Shaun has over 20 years of hands-on experience across plumbing, heating and gas work, on both domestic and commercial systems. That depth of experience means problems get understood and fixed properly rather than guessed at.

Are you a gas engineer?

Yes. All gas work is carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer, in line with the legal safety standards required for any gas appliance. If you would like to see credentials before we start, just ask.

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes. We provide free, no-obligation quotes for installations and larger jobs. Call us on 07745 036715 or send an enquiry through the website and we will come back to you with a clear, honest price.

What are your working hours?

We are available seven days a week, typically from early morning through to the evening. For anything urgent, get in touch and we will do our best to help as quickly as we can.

How much does a new boiler cost?

A supply-and-fit boiler installation typically ranges from £1,500 to £5,000. The exact price depends on the boiler you choose, the size and layout of your system, and any additional work such as a system flush or pipework changes. We give you a clear, fixed quote after surveying your home.

How long does a boiler installation take?

A straightforward boiler swap is usually completed in one to two days. A more involved system upgrade or a move to a different type of boiler can take a little longer. We will give you a realistic timeline as part of your quote.

Do you remove the old boiler?

Yes. Removing and safely disposing of your old boiler is included as part of the installation. We handle everything, so you do not need to arrange anything separately.

Do new boilers come with a warranty?

Yes. The boilers we install come with manufacturer-backed warranties, and we register the warranty on your behalf. We will explain the exact cover for your chosen boiler before you commit.

Which boiler brands do you install?

We install all the major brands and will recommend the right unit for your home, your hot water demand and your budget, rather than simply fitting the most expensive option. We are happy to talk through the pros and cons of each.

How often should I service my boiler?

We recommend servicing your boiler once a year. An annual service keeps it running safely and efficiently, helps prevent breakdowns, and is usually required to keep the manufacturer warranty valid.

My boiler has stopped working, can you help?

Yes. Get in touch on 07745 036715 and we will arrange to come and look. We find the actual fault before quoting for any parts, and we carry common spares to fix many issues on the first visit.

Should I repair or replace my boiler?

It depends on the age of the boiler, the fault and the cost of the repair. We will give you honest advice on which option is better value in the long run, rather than throwing parts at a boiler that is near the end of its life.

Do you provide Landlord Gas Safety Certificates?

Yes. We provide the annual Gas Safety Certificate that landlords are legally required to hold for rental properties, and we can carry out the service at the same visit.

Is underfloor heating worth it?

For the right project, yes. Underfloor heating gives warm, even heat with no cold spots and no radiators taking up wall space, and it runs at a lower temperature that suits modern boilers and heat pumps. It is especially good for extensions, renovations and new builds.

Can you retrofit underfloor heating?

Often, yes, particularly as part of a renovation or extension where the floor is coming up anyway. We will assess the floor build-up and let you know honestly whether underfloor heating is the right choice for your project.

Do you test the system before the floor goes down?

Always. Every loop is pressure-tested and left under pressure before any screed or floor covering goes down, so we can be certain there are no leaks once everything is covered over.

Can I control different rooms separately?

Yes. We connect each zone back to a manifold with its own controls, so different areas of the home can be set to different temperatures for comfort and efficiency.

Do you take on commercial work?

Yes. SRM Mechanical carries out commercial heating work across Norfolk, including plant room installations, commercial boiler servicing and repairs, and heating maintenance for larger premises. Shaun has years of experience on commercial systems.

Can you work around our opening hours?

Wherever possible, yes. We know downtime costs a business money, so we plan work around your operating hours and keep disruption to a minimum.

Do you respond to commercial breakdowns?

Yes. When a commercial system fails the clock is running, so we respond promptly and focus on getting you back up and running with the minimum of fuss. Call 07745 036715 for anything urgent.

Do you document the work for compliance?

Yes. Commercial work is documented clearly for your records and compliance, so you always have the paperwork you need for the systems on your site.
